HARBIN -- China is to launch Gaofen-5, a hyperspectral imaging satellite for Earth observation, at the beginning of May.The new satellite, capable of obtaining spectral information from ultraviolet to long-wave infrared radiation, can be used to survey inland waters and mineral resources, said Tong Xudong, director of the Earth Observation System and Data Center, China National Space Administration (CNSA), at a conference Tuesday.The satellite can also monitor air pollutants, greenhouse gases and aerosol particles, Tong said.To make the best use of observational data and serve countries covered by the Belt and Road Initiative, the CNSA released an international cooperation plan for Gaofen-5, specifying fields that will be open for cooperation and commercial service.The administration also plans to launch Gaofen-6 this year, so as to form a constellation with other Gaofen satellites in orbit.Since the Gaofen project began in 2010, China has had an increasingly clearer view of the planet. The Chinese Medical Doctor Association and London-based Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists have launched a training program in Beijing, in a bid to develop China's obstetricians and gynaecologists.Sponsored by German pharmaceutical company Bayer, the program aims to foster international academic exchange, encourage communication between domestic and international medical associations, and professionally improve China's obstetricians and gynaecologists, especially young doctors.As part of the program RCOG, considered one of the most authoritative academic institutions in the world, will test gynaecologists, holding them to a standard considered among the strictest worldwide.Due to the language barrier and difficulty of the test itself, only a limited number of Chinese obstetricians and gynaecologists will pass each year.This is the first time that RCOG has offered its training program in non-Commonwealth countries.The program will first select 30 doctors through academic tests in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Wuhan and Guangzhou.Selected doctors will then receive pre-test training from RCOG professors, while academic idea-sharing forms the third part of the test.Doctors are eager to progress to international academic research and cutting-edge academic concepts, in order to update their academic knowledge as soon as possible and to promote the improvement of clinical practice.
